course of empire

thomas cole’s course empire is the source of inspiration for this form. a timeline of power collapsing condensed onto pieces of fabric. from sharp shoulders to dying flowers and an asymmetrical dress seeming to lose its structure. everything is created from scratch. flowers are real.

origami

twenty different drape experiments led to this beautiful paper sculpture i was pleased with. unconventional flat patterns created through mundane forms of everyday life romanticized on a mannequin, using techniques inspired by origami.

karasu zoku

moving to japan gave me access to firsthand research of karasu zoku in the twenty-first century. intentional layering, beautiful prints, and flowing fabric, speaking loudly without needing to talk. everything was monotone and was spoken through its silhouette. the feather motifs seen throughout the clothing are a homage to karasu zoku (crow tribe). here are concept sketches i created through my observations.
